From Superintendent Zrike:
I am pleased to share that Mr. Richard Metropolis has been named the new principal at Wakefield Memorial High School. Mr. Metropolis will join the Wakefield community effective July 1st.
In 1999, Mr. Metropolis began his education career teaching history and social studies at Wakefield High School. He assumed the leadership role of Department Coordinator in Social Studies in 2004. After 11 years at Wakefield High School, Mr. Metropolis became Assistant Principal at Sandwich High School on Cape Cod. There he has served as an instructional leader supporting teachers with curriculum development, teaching practice and the implementation of quality assessments. Most importantly, he distinguished himself as a student-centered administrator, always advocating for the needs of the young people he serves. Mr. Metropolis has also played an important role in building management; overseeing safety and crisis protocols, facility maintenance and testing coordination. Mr. Metropolis holds a B.A. in History from the University of New Hampshire, a M.Ed. from UMass Lowell and a C.A.G.S. From Cambridge College in Educational Leadership. Mr. Metropolis is a passionate and reflective leader who is looking forward to returning to the Wakefield Public Schools to continue the pursuit of educational excellence.
In the coming weeks, we plan to host an event where Mr. Metropolis can meet with students, staff, parents and community members. We will let you know when this event is scheduled.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not extend my gratitude to the members of the search committee who worked tirelessly to find a strong leader for Wakefield Memorial High School. Their time, enthusiasm and perspective were invaluable to the process.
